Serena Williams, who is looking to defend her title at the Australian Open, was rightly the favourite for the crown even with Clijsters still in the draw. But with the comeback queen now out of the equation, Serena’s chances of holding up the silverware on the last Saturday of the tournament surely must have improved. Remember, it was Clijsters who knocked Serena out in the semi-finals at the 2009 US Open.
