When did rugby union turn professional?

Rugby Union finally turned professional after the Rugby World Cup in 1995.

This was also the year that the Heineken Cup was established. Since then, the sport has continued to grow at a fast pace and next year's World Cup in New Zealand will be a huge contrast to the early 90s.
